Newly crowned World lightweight champion Katie Taylor jetted in to a heroines reception at Dublin Airport this morning following her incredible exploits at the 5th AIBA Women's World Championships in Ningbo City, China.
On Saturday last the 22 year old Bray woman won her second World title on the trot after beating Cheng Dong of China 13-2 at the Ningbo Youngor Gymnasium.
The win arrived just over two years after she beat Annabella Farias of Argentina in the 60Kg World Championships final in New Delhi, India.
The Bray woman, who is coached by her dad, Peter Taylor, registered 67 points in China and conceded just 11 in her five fights.
Her boxer of the tournament award will be presented at the AIBA men's World Cup in Moscow on December 12th.
Ireland finished in 6th spot in the medals table at the World Championships (see above link) despite having just one boxer competing in Ningbo City.
China, who were using a 13 strong squad, finished in number one position after claiming five gold medals.
Meanwhile, Taylor has already been named fighter of the month for December on the influential women's boxing web-site W-BAN.

                                                                          "Taylor One Bout From Gold"

Katie Taylor produced a master-class of boxing to march into the lightweight final at the 5th AIBA Women's World Championships in Ningbo City, China following a resounding 20-2 semi final win over two times Russian national champion Ayzznat Gadzhieva this morning.
It was right hands and left hooks all the way from the 22 year old Bray woman, who was 6-1 ahead at the end of the first and 13-2 in front at the end of the second, before adding another seven points to her total in the third and final round.
Taylor, the reigning World, European and European Union champion, who is now guaranteed at least silver, will meet Cheng Dong of China in tomorrows 60Kg final.
Dong beat Cindy Orain of France 6-1 this morning. Taylor beat Orain 11-0 in last Augusts European Union final in Liverpool.
Commentating on this mornings result, Taylor's dad and coach Peter Taylor said that it was his daughters best performance of the tournament so far.
Taylor senior also revealed that there were a lot of fairly vocal Irish fans at the Ningbo Youngor Gymnasium this morning.
He said: "Katie gave a master-class this morning. She was absolutely outstanding. She's improving with every bout at these Championships.
"The Russian girl came to box and was attacking all the time but Katie picked her off superbly with counter punches.
We have one more big test tomorrow and that is our focus now.
"A lot of Irish fans have arrived down from Beijing to cheer Katie on and they created a terrific atmosphere. The Fields of Athenry got a great blast this morning."
Today's results means that for the second time in just over three months an Irish boxer will meet a Chinese opponent in a major international final in China.
Last August, Irish captain Ken Egan was desperately unlucky to lose out 11-7 to Xiaoping Zhang of China in the light heavyweight Olympic final.
The finals of the 5th AIBA Women's World Championships will be held this Saturday starting at 2pm local time.
Ningbo City is eight hours ahead of Ireland.
Women's senior bouts are contested over three, two minute rounds.

                                                                                  "Taylor v Gadzhieva"

Katie Taylor is eager to get in the ring for tomorrows lightweight semi final with Ayzznat Gadzhieva of Russia at the 5th AIBA Women's World Championships in Ningbo City, China according to her dad and coach Peter Taylor.
However, Taylor senior believes that Gadzhieva will provide a stern test for the reigning World, European and European Union champion, who is already guaranteed a bronze medal from these Championships.
He said: "Katie has taken a lot of confidence from her last win and she can't wait to get in the ring for the semi final. She completed a light training session today and she is fit and ready for another test tomorrow.
"I believe that Gadzhieva will come to fight and we could see a high scoring contest. She (Gadzhieva) is a tough and strong opponent - it will be a difficult bout and nothing can be taken for granted.
"Every bout at these Championships presents a challenge and the further Katie progresses the more difficult those challenges become."
Tomorrows semi final at the Ningbo Youngor Gymnasium should take place between 9am and 10am (Irish time).
Dong Cheng of China and Cindy Orain of France will contest the other lightweight semi final.
The finals will be held on Saturday beginning at 2pm local time.
Ningbo City is eight hours ahead of Ireland.

                                                                                    "Taylor v Dilhofova"

Katie Taylor will have to keep Danusa Dilhofova on the backfoot in tomorrows last 16 clash at the 5th AIBA Women's World Championships in Ningbo City, China according to her dad and coach Peter Taylor.
Taylor junior, who is defending the World lightweight title she won in New Delhi in November 2006, meets the Czech Republic fighter between 7am and 8am tomorrow morning (Irish time).
At stake is a place in the quarter finals, and Taylor senior, who will be working his daughters corner at the Ningbo Youngor Gymnasium, is anticipating a tough three rounds.
He said: "Dilhofova had a good win over the Turkish girl in her last bout and her confidence will be high. She is a strong, aggressive boxer that likes to come forward a lot.
"Katie will be looking to get off to a good start and keep her on the backfoot tomorrow. We are expecting a very physical fight but Katie is feeling very confident and is really looking forward to getting in the ring for this one."
Taylor began her title defence with a 20-3 win over Australian, Emma Carruthers on Saturday. Dilhofova advanced following a 12-0 win over Turkeys Gonca Yilmaz.
The Czech Republic fighter won lightweight gold at the Witch Cup in Hungary earlier this year.
Taylor, the reigning World, European and European Union champion, did not take part in the 2008 Witch Cup because of injury.
The Bray woman had won two Witch Cup gold medals - and two boxers of the tournaments awards - on the trot up to this years tournament.
